Samsung teases Galaxy Ring

At the end of its huge Unpacked event that took place mere hours ago, Samsung teased the next big thing - the Galaxy Ring. Yes, it's a smart ring, and it looks just like a smart ring from the teaser.

The Galaxy Ring will bring Samsung's "cutting edge" health innovations to a brand new form factor. It will be a "powerful and accessible health and wellness device, here to change the shape of future health like only Samsung can". That's the quote from the stage, make of it what you wish.

The ring is circular and black, at least in the iteration that was shown in the teaser. Speaking of teasers, did you notice the not so subtly hidden teaser for the Galaxy Ring that was snuck into the Samsung official promo video about Samsung Health? We already mentioned this one in our post going through all of the official videos, but here it is again - make sure you pay attention at the 2:10 mark.

What could that be? What could that shape represent? Oh, wait, it's pretty obvious, isn't it? The Galaxy Ring has been doing the rounds in the rumorsphere for quite a while now, and at one point it was said to be the star of today's show. That didn't happen, and now it's expected to be unveiled at some point later this year - perhaps it could launch alongside the next-gen foldables in July? We'll have to wait and see.

Naturally, as it's a smart wearable device, expect it to, at the very least, track a bunch of health metrics and provide you with vibrations for notifications. Since it has no screen, battery life should be better than on a smartwatch.

Samsung Galaxy Ring is reportedly extremely light and comes with different material finishes

Samsung had a “One more thing” teaser at its Galaxy Unpacked event with the Galaxy Ring tracker. While we only got a teaser at the event tech analyst Avi Greengart shared some more details based on early access with a prototype Galaxy Ring unit.

The wearable is remarkably light and comes in various sizes ranging up to US size 13 (22.2mm diameter). Galaxy Ring will come in 3 material finishes and is said to launch later this year. The Galaxy Ring teaser images show pogo pins on the inside for charging alongside heart rate, SpO2 monitoring, sleep and stress tracking.

Based on earlier rumors, Galaxy Ring could debut in Q3 2024 but Samsung has not shared any official launch details yet.

Samsung Galaxy Ring goes official

Samsung briefly teased its Galaxy Ring at the Galaxy S24 Unpacked last month but we now get more details as the wearable was formally announced. Samsung did not reveal pricing and availability details as those are coming later this year but we did get a lot more details for the first Galaxy smart ring.

Galaxy Ring will be offered in US ring sizes 5 - 13 which will be marked with S to XL on the inside of the ring. Samsung's ring features a concave shape that tapers in the middle instead of the convex look of the Oura Ring. Galaxy Ring will be offered in three colors – ceramic black, platinum silver, and gold.

Galaxy Ring tracks heart rate, breathing rate, sleep, and night movement, and can even detect early signs of sleep apnea. Samsung is also advertising the Ring as a companion to the Galaxy Watch allowing for higher quality 24/7 health and activity tracking.

It also calculates your Vitality score based on a combination of daily activity, sleep, resting heart rate and heart rate variability. Users can also set specific wellbeing goals and receive feedback on their progress via Booster Cards which will be available in the Samsung Health app.

Samsung Galaxy Ring will be exclusively compatible with Samsung Galaxy smartphones at launch, with plans to expand to more Android devices later.
